Mixed signals are not actually mysterious. They are two sets of real behavior arriving from the same person: the texts that feel like interest and the dodged plans that feel like distance. The confusion comes from trying to average them in your head, where the most recent signal always weighs the most. On paper, the mix has a shape.
Why your head cannot average them
After a sweet text, you round up. After three days of silence, you round down. Your read on the whole relationship swings with whatever happened last, which is why one good night can erase two bad weeks and one cold reply can poison a good month.
A journal does not round. Every signal you log keeps its place in the record, and the tally of positive versus negative signals sits right on your score card, unmoved by whatever happened most recently.
What the mix usually means
When the tally runs close to even over months, you are usually looking at ambivalence: interest that is real but not strong enough to act on consistently. When the positives cluster early and the negatives take over, that is a fade wearing a friendly mask. When the signals alternate in cycles, the hot and cold flag fires and names it.
Spilled will not tell you which story to believe. It shows you the counts, the trend line, and the flags, and lets the shape of the data say what the individual moments could not.
The question to replace the confusion
Instead of asking what he means, ask what the ratio is. A person whose positive signals outnumber the negative ones two to one is telling you something. So is a person whose ratio runs the other way while his words stay sweet. Words are signals too, but in Spilled they only count once, next to everything else.

Are mixed signals always a bad sign?
Not always. Early dating is naturally uneven while two people find their footing. The concern is when the mix persists for months or forms cycles, which is exactly what the trend chart and the hot and cold flag surface.
What if I am the one sending mixed signals?
The journal shows your behavior too, indirectly. If your entries reveal that you go quiet after every good stretch, that is worth knowing. Spilled tracks the relationship you are actually having, and you are half of it.
How many entries before the picture is clear?
The score appears with your first entry, and most people say the picture gets honest around two to three weeks of regular logging.
